The presents have been unwrapped and the eggnog has been drunk…now what? You cannot miss out on the iconic first night festivities that are sure to impress this year. First Night in Chatham is a magical town festival on December 31 st celebrating the visual and performing arts, dating back to 1991. The best part, all the activities are only steps from the Inn doors.

There are several family friendly events throughout First Night, including horse-drawn wagon rides and performances by local groups and artists. There are several ways you can access the festivities. Buttons are for purchase in many local shops or online, which grants you access to most indoor-activities and performances. However, there are plenty of button-free options throughout downtown.

Don’t fret as the day winds down because First Night always saves the best for last – fireworks to ring in the New Year! Following the noise parade, there will be low-level fireworks for the young first nighters at Veterans Field starting at 6:30 p.m. Then, the moment everyone has waited for is a fireworks display over Oyster Pond at the stroke of midnight.
