Schoolhouse Pond is small with a roped-off swim area. It’s located off Schoolhouse Pond Road off of Sam Ryder Road in Chatham, MA. This beach is shady and calm. Nearby are Goose Pond and the smaller Ryder’s Pond.
Despite its small size, it’s very popular. Before visiting the Schoolhouse Pond beach, be aware that no flotation devices are allowed at this spot. Parking is limited here, so you may want to walk or seek alternate transportation.
Across the street is a conservation area known as the Triangle, which is a great walking trail and recreation area. It’s worth visiting both of these spots while you’re here.
Nearby Eats
Down the street on George Ryder Road is the Chatham Municipal Airport. Here there is a popular breakfast and lunch restaurant called Hangar B Eatery. It’s said they have great coffee, a great tea selection, and is a great spot for tourists. It’s only about a 15 minute walk from the pond. Main Street is only a 20 minute walk from here, about a mile and a quarter. Right at the end of a street is a great ice cream parlor called Kream ‘n Kone. They also serve takeout seafood.

If you’re looking for shopping, you can find some great deals at the Ocean State Job Lot on George Ryder Road, not far past the airport. On the corner of Main St and George Ryder Road there’s a Shell station, which has a full convenience store. For local businesses, there are two nearby consignment shops called At Home Again and In My Travels.
